Garden & Ecology

The raised beds help save water and help make it easy to move through the garden. Cedar mulch both reduces weeds and garden bugs (a very good thing). The straw beyond the fence is the melon patch and it also reduces water loss and weeds plus provides a nice soft dry spot for tender melons to grow. Beyond the hay field you will see the wind turbines. What a great way to harness power from without ripping up the earth and leaving behind toxic waste. Please note the storm fast approaching. I was about 10 minutes from a real whopper.

Is that your garden, Diane? It's lovely! My son and I are just putting the finishing touches on a much simpler and less fancy version. Yours is impressive. We only have 4 square 5' x 5' beds - that's all we had room for and it's the only spot on the property that gets enough sun. I haven't taken any pictures yet but will try and post a couple on my blog and maybe the flickr site soon.(I'm photobella on flickr)
